The Blame Game
Have you ever blamed the wrong person for something? When you find out the truth, and you have to apologize for your incorrectly-assigned blame, it is definitely humbling.

Not my fault
The world we live in has many problems and pains that we must all deal with. Where did they come from? Why does someone that I love have to hurt? These questions are answered by a worldview.
Many who believe the atheist/materialist worldview misunderstand the Christian worldview and incorrectly assign blame to God.
“The God who created this universe, if he created this universe, is quite clearly a maniac, an utter maniac, totally selfish. We have to spend our lives on our knees thanking him. What kind of God would do that?”
“Yes, the world is very splendid, but it also has in it insects whose whole life cycle is to burrow into the eyes of children and make them blind. Why? Why did you do that to us? It is simply not acceptable. Atheism is not just about not believing there’s a god. On the assumption there is one, what kind of God is he? It’s perfectly apparent that was monstrous, utterly monstrous, and deserves no respect.”
The blogger, Vox Day responds clearly that the blame is not God’s, but I’m not sure that even Vox Day gets it right:
Fry is clearly blaming the wrong party. The utter maniac, the totally selfish and utterly monstrous being he castigates is not the Creator God. It is the usurper who rules the world, whose name is devil, Satan, Lucifer.
While Satan has played his part in the corruption of mankind, and continues to roam about seeking those to destroy, we will all face judgement for our own actions. Satan will get what he deserves in the end. Thankful and only by the great mercy of God, the penalty that we all deserve for our actions has been paid by Jesus, who sacrificed himself on our behalf.
But we must accept this payment for our sins. At the judgement, God will punish everyone who has not recognized and repented from their disobedience and accepted Jesus’ sacrifice. We are to blame. We have all disobeyed God’s commands at some point and require help from outside of ourselves.
John says in clearly in the first chapter of his first epistle.
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness…But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense – Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins…We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. The man who says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
Evidence For a Worldwide Flood
Worldwide flood. Genesis 6-11 describes a cataclysmic flood that covered the whole Earth. Only Noah, his family, and two of every kind of air-breathing animal survived the flood inside the ark. If this truly was a worldwide flood about 4500 years ago as the Bible says, then there should be some evidence today that we can verify. Also, by neglecting the predicted effects of the worldwide flood, one could be deceived into believing that the things (fossils, layered soils, flood graveyards…) caused by the flood would have instead been caused by uniformitarian processes over billions of years.
- What would be the first thing we would expect to find if every air-breathing creature as well as many underwater creatures were buried rapidly during the year-long worldwide flood? Billions of dead things buried in sedimentary rock layers. This is exactly what archeologists find when they dig. Fossils are evidence of flood conditions. Fossils are not expectations of uniformitarian time scales with the geologic column being laid down slowly over billions of years. For example, there are no fossils of the millions of American Bison that were slaughtered within the last 200 years. This is because they were exposed to the elements instead of being buried quickly to avoid the concentric levels of scavengers. But since we do find fossils all over the world, it is very strong evidence of flood conditions having happened all over the world. When thinking back to the purpose of this post and pointing out the incompatibilities of the biblical creation story and the atheistic origins story, either the fossils were created by the flood or they were created by uniformitarian processes over billions of years. It cannot be both since the upheaval of “the springs of the great deep bursting forth” and the resorting of the sedimentary layers would have destroyed the preexisting fossils. Therefore, to believe that the fossils were laid down over billions of years would cause someone to discount the biblical flood story as historical by relegating it to mythology.
- Soil layers appear to be perfectly sorted by water. If you drive through the cutouts in the road as you travel across the country, it is easy to distinguish the individual layers that appear to be sorted. This fits very easily in what we would expect to find if the world were covered by water for an entire year. The layers look nothing like what one would expect to find if they were exposed for millions of years. This is to say that exposed layers face erosion from wind and water. The picture below will help.
What we find when digging in the soil looks like picture 1 above. The layers were sorted and solidified in a short period of time so that the layers were not exposed to millions of years of erosion. If however, the layers of soil were exposed for millions of years, then the soil layers as we dug down into the soil would look like picture 4. As millions of years of erosion acted on the layers, they would be alternately exposed, filled in, cut through, and refilled again…all with new soil types to create an amalgamation of heterogeneous soil mixtures. But this is not what is found when digging. - There is little or no erosion between layers. This shows that the layers were not exposed for a long time. They were sorted and solidified in a short period of time as would be expected from the biblical worldwide flood. This is solid evidence that shows the layers did not get laid down slowly over billions of years and endure eons of exposure to erosion. They were laid down quickly over the course (and just after) the worldwide flood.
- No bioturbation fossils are found in layers below the current levels. If the soil were exposed to plant growth and worm/rodent digging for millions of years, the layers of soil should record this in the fossil record. But bioturbation is found only in the upper layer of soil. This shows that the lower layers were not exposed for millions of years, but were laid down quickly and homogenously during the worldwide flood.
- Huge fossil graveyards. Not only are there fossils, but there are huge graveyards of animal fossils. This is confirmation of flood conditions trapping millions of animals in an area and burying them quickly. Fossil graveyards are found all over the world (Colorado, Africa, Canada, China…)
- Fossils of marine life (and most everything else) exist on mountaintops. Finding marine fossils on mountaintops is a strong indication that these mountains were once underwater. This literally confirms the words of Genesis 7 that say, “The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than fifteen cubits.”
- Polystrata fossils. There are many fossils that span multiple layers of soil. This is consistent with flood conditions in that while the soil is still moist from sedimentary sorting, trees/animals can be buried as more layers are laid down on top during the flood. But polystrata fossils are not consistent with the idea that the geologic layers were formed over millions of years. It is inconceivable that organic material would avoid decomposition long enough for millions of years of soil to collect around it to bury it.
- The amount of salt in the sea is consistent with the expectation that the seas were formed within the biblical timeframe. Were the oceans to be billions of years old, the amount of salt in them would be much higher.
- Delta formation at river mouths is consistent with the deltas having formed about 4500 years ago after the worldwide flood.
- Fossilized thorns – If the layers were laid down over billions of years before Adam sinned, Christians would expect not to find any thorns in “old” layers since thorns were a curse of sin as mentions in Genesis 3:18. The problem for those who believe that God used evolution as his creative mechanism is that there are fossilized thorns buried in layers of soil that are evolutionarily dated as millions of years old…prior to mankind’s existence. The choice one would have is either:
- Evolutionary view – that thorns have always been around and would have fossilized in the uniformitarian millions of years of geologic layers. This view would be in conflict with God’s curse in Genesis 3.
- Biblical view – that thorns were a part of the curse and appeared after Adam sinned. These thorns were buried and fossilized during the worldwide flood of Noah’s day.
- Almost every ancient culture has a flood story that resembles the Biblical story. As Christians, we would expect this because all civilizations would have come from 4 pairs (Noah, Ham, Shem, Japheth) once they got off the ark. All civilizations would have separated from this family and though distorted over time, have in their history a story that would resemble the true one that we find in Genesis.
Is There a Better Way?
It’s clear to me that after studying God’s revealed word in scripture (from Genesis, Exodus, Psalms, Isaiah to Matthew, Mark, Luke, Acts, Romans, Hebrews, and Peter) that God intended to communicate that his creative works happened over 6 literal days about 6000 years ago.
But if God had wanted to communicate to the Hebrew people (and us today) that he made use of billions of year and naturalistic processes to bring forth his creation, how would scripture look?
Most all scholars agree that Moses wrote (or at least edited) most of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. In those writings exist the concept of large numbers. For example: Genesis 22:17 “I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore.” Also, in the book of numbers, during the census of the twelve tribes, “The total number of the men of Israel was 601,730.” – Leviticus 26:51. So, the argument that the primitive people of Moses’ day could not grasp large numbers can be factored out of the equation because of the facts.
So, why did God reveal to Moses extremely limited days and years in Genesis 1 and Exodus 20, when he could have easily made use of large numbers like stars and grains of sand? I can think of many ways and passages that he could have communicated evolutionary progression over billions of years like this.
Then after as many years as the number of grains of sand, God said, “Let us make man in our image.” So God took one of the animals that had arisen over these ages, which looked like a man but was not, and God breathed His spirit into this creature so that it was changed into a man. In like manner God took a female hominid and made a companion for Adam. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.” And it was so. And from this first pair, and from so many others like them, came all the people of the earth.—Genesis 1:26–28
But in those days there were terrors on the land and in the sky and in the seas, and many also fell prey to a host of terrible plagues. God gave humans and animals to each other for food. Some plants and animals killed with poisonous stings and bites, and from time to time many of the creatures that God had made died and were buried and were no more. But new ones arose to take their place. Animals and humans suffered from gout, osteoporosis, and bone cancer, and God called this “very good”.—Genesis 1:29–31
Then the Lord God took a few thousand hominids formed from ape-like ancestors through evolution and breathed in them, and they became spiritual beings.—Genesis 2:7
But if you do not believe his [Moses’] writings, it’s not a problem, because you can believe my [Jesus’] words anyway.—John 5:47
But He chose not to reveal his involvement in history like this.
For those of you that believe that the Bible clearly teaches evolution and billions of years, I have demonstrated in this post how the Bible should have looked if God had wanted to communicate his use of naturalistic processes over billions of years as his creative technique. So, from your perspective, how should the Bible look, if he had wanted to communicate that he created the universe in six twenty-four hour days about 6000 years ago?
Why Not Question the Scientific Principles of Other Miracles?
What physical laws did God use to manifest the virgin birth? Please describe the physics of how Jesus walked on water and turned water to wine? In I Kings 18, what natural phenomenon did God use to consume Elijah’s burnt offering on Mt. Carmel? How did God part the Red Sea? In this explanation please include the detailed calculations for fluid dynamics, the amount of water moved, and how gravity was suspended or redirected to accommodate a dry path across the sea. Make sure the conclusions involve only measurable scientific calculations. Which scientific processes did Jesus use to feed 5000 people with 5 loaves and 2 fishes? Why is it so important that the creation miracle be explained by natural phenomenon and not the others?

Can We Help?
Assuming that God did use evolution as his creative mechanism and seeing how God has used the death of the weak, sick, and less fit to advance and cleanse his creation, why should we as Christians not join him in his creative work by keeping the weak and unfit animals or humans from reproducing? How does the evolutionary process of culling the weak and sick logically overcome Jesus’ gospel of helping the sick and unfit?
Where Did the Time go?
I think it’s fair to ask the question, “Looking ONLY at scripture (as I have done to build a case for a biblical worldview), how would someone deduce billions of years and God’s use of evolution as his creative mechanism to the exemption of the young earth view?”
Worldwide Flood
In Genesis 6-9, God brings a worldwide flood as judgment for the sin of mankind. After the flood, God promises never to send a flood like that again. It is clearly as worldwide flood as the wording of Genesis 7 illustrates:
The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the heavens were covered. The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than twenty feet. Every living thing that moved on the earth perished. Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died. Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out…Only Noah was left, and those with him on the ark.

Each evolutionary model and those creation models that view Genesis as mythology do not recognize a global flood. The old earth creation models sometimes see the story of the flood as mythological and sometimes they see it as just a local flood. But there’s really no wiggle-room in trying to justify a local flood. The superlative words: All, Every, and Only do not allow for alternative interpretations.
Those that see it as a local flood, justify their claim of a local flood by interpreting that passage to mean a local flood. It was “worldwide in scale” to Noah’s world according to what they say. However Genesis 9 says:
Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.
If this was a local flood, and God said that he would never again send a flood like the one he sent, would we not conclude that there would never again be local floods? And yet massive local floods have devastated areas around the world. According to scripture and history, the flood of Noah’s day had to be a worldwide flood.

God promised never to flood the entire Earth again. The rainbow is a sign of his covenant promise.
Jesus understood the flood of Noah’s day to be a worldwide flood as you can see from his words recorded in Luke 17
Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. People were eating, drinking, marrying, and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.
I and 2 Peter also record the belief that the flood was a real and worldwide event in which only Noah, his family, and two of every kind of animal survived.
…when God waited patiently in the days of Noah whle the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through the water…
…if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others.
First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this coming he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed.
We’ll come back to the worldwide flood again in the section regarding Scientific evidence that opposes evolution.
At the BEGINNING of Creation
The words of Jesus in Mark 10:6 “At the beginning of creation, God made them male and female.” This may seem innocuous in the debate, but if you look at the evolutionary timeline, mankind comes at the END of the line after billions of years of death. Jesus says clearly that mankind was created at the BEGINNING of creation. With those 11 words, there is now no room in scripture for the billions of years required for evolution.
In Luke 11:49-51 Jesus tells the rebellious listeners that they “will be held responsible for the blood of all of the prophets that has been shed since the beginning of the world, from the blood of Abel (Adam’s son) to the blood of Zechariah.” Would Jesus attribute the blood of mythological prophets (Abel) to the rebellious generation? Would that not be similar to saying “This generation will be responsible for the blood of ObiWan Kenobi”? It doesn’t hold a lot of weight if the victim is fictional. If however, Abel was a real person and as scripture teaches is the son of the first man and woman, then we know from the chrono-genealogies within a few hundred years of when he lived and died. This certainly rules out the beginning of the world being billions of years prior.
If the evolutionary timeframe were true and mankind did not appear until the very end of the timeline, how would Jesus’ words fit with the idea that He created Adam/Eve at the beginning of creation and that Abel was a prophet at the beginning of the world?
