Super Nova Remnants

When astronomers look into the heavens, they can see the remains of stars that have exploded. The technical term for this is SuperNova Remnants (SNR). These SNRs should be visible as they expand for thousands or even millions of years. The SNRs are categorized into three types: Stage 1 – Seven light years in diameter, Stage 2 – 300 light years in diameter, and Stage 3 – 1500 light years in diameter. Looking at the SNRs in the Milky Way and counting the different stages of SNRs should give a pretty good indication of the number of years that have passed. From the chart below, you can see that the predictions of a young universe align more closely with the experimental data than does the long-age prediction:

Faint Young Sun Paradox

The Faint Young Sun Paradox. It is named paradox by evolutionary astronomers not because it does not match “young earth” predictions, but because it is counter to the “billions of years” expectations. A description of the problem for evolutionists is that billions of years ago, because of measurable rates of the sun’s fusion and how it affects the brightness/radiation, it would have been too dim to heat the Earth. So, at the time that evolutionists tell us that life emerged from non-living matter, the earth would have been a frozen rock that was unable to incubate life. But according to the “young earth” model, the sun would not have been meaningfully dimmer 6000 years ago. It’s only a paradox for those who believe in deep time.

UPDATE: Astrobiologists have discovered a solution for the Faint Young Sun Paradox…if you believe in miracles and lots of asteroids.

Now, Astrobiology Magazine has a “possible solution to the faint young sun paradox” (also posted on Science Daily). It’s possible, that is, if you can keep these factors happening in the right order in the right quantities:

  1. Bring in lots of asteroids to heat the surface. You need some big ones, 100 km in diameter.
  2. Make sure the asteroids have lots of sulfur. This will be needed for life.
  3. Let the asteroids cause outgassing of lots of sulfur and carbon into the atmosphere to provide global warming (but not too much).
  4. Keep the impacts from being too big or frequent to destroy the life that is trying to emerge.
  5. Reduce the impact rate as the sun warms up.

If you have to invoke special pleading rather than evidence to keep the evolutionary model on life support, it might be time to let it rest in peace.

The Biblical model offers real peace.

Planetary Magnetic Decay

It is being taught that the solar system is 4.6 billion years old. If this is so, we would expect the planets in the solar system to be cold and dead after having extinguished their magnetism and geothermal energy long ago. And yet the evidence is that Earth, Mercury, Uranus, and Neptune have magnetic fields. If they were truly billions of years old, we would expect the magnetic fields to have decayed into immeasurability. Some of Jupiter’s moons even have magnetic fields.

Astrophysicist, Dr. Russell Humphreys made predictions in 1984 based on his knowledge if the cosmos and the historical account in Genesis of what the magnetic fields of several solar system planets should be. In the last two decades, the probes sent to these planets from earth have verified his predictions. However, the predictions of evolutionary scientists were grossly inaccurate.

In a related note, the expectation (if bodies in the solar system are billions of years old) is that they would no longer have volcanic activity, but again there are several moons from Jupiter and Saturn that exhibit tremendous heat in their volcanoes. Even the rate of disappearance of Saturn’s rings is inconsistent with the expectations of billions of years. The rings of Saturn have not been around long enough to have dissipated and are thus visible because they are young. Problems for long-age beliefs regarding the inner planets, outer planets, and Planetary Formation.

Worldwide Flood

In Genesis 6-9, God brings a worldwide flood as judgment for the sin of mankind. After the flood, God promises never to send a flood like that again. It is clearly as worldwide flood as the wording of Genesis 7 illustrates:

The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the heavens were covered. The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than twenty feet. Every living thing that moved on the earth perished. Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died. Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out…Only Noah was left, and those with him on the ark.

Each evolutionary model and those creation models that view Genesis as mythology do not recognize a global flood. The old earth creation models sometimes see the story of the flood as mythological and sometimes they see it as just a local flood. But there’s really no wiggle-room in trying to justify a local flood. The superlative words: All, Every, and Only do not allow for alternative interpretations.

Those that see it as a local flood, justify their claim of a local flood by interpreting that passage to mean a local flood. It was “worldwide in scale” to Noah’s world according to what they say. However Genesis 9 says:

Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.

If this was a local flood, and God said that he would never again send a flood like the one he sent, would we not conclude that there would never again be local floods? And yet massive local floods have devastated areas around the world. According to scripture and history, the flood of Noah’s day had to be a worldwide flood.

God promised never to flood the entire Earth again. The rainbow is a sign of his covenant promise.

Jesus understood the flood of Noah’s day to be a worldwide flood as you can see from his words recorded in Luke 17

Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. People were eating, drinking, marrying, and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.

I and 2 Peter also record the belief that the flood was a real and worldwide event in which only Noah, his family, and two of every kind of animal survived.

…when God waited patiently in the days of Noah whle the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through the water…

…if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others.

First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this coming he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed.

We’ll come back to the worldwide flood again in the section regarding Scientific evidence that opposes evolution.

Creation Manifesto

Tell me if you’ve heard this before, “Could God have used evolution as his creative mechanism?”

I have had several friends tell me that the evolutionary origins story is compatible with the whole biblical narrative and that there is no need to reject the evolutionary story. I would like to take on that claim and analyze it against God’s Word and later against some scientific observations.

The purpose for writing this manifesto is this:

  1. Define evolution and look at its history / intent
  2. Look at scripture to see if (as a whole) it can accommodate evolution. If not, what are the implications of trying to dissolve evolution into the biblical narrative?
  3. Look at the scientific reasons why evolution might not be on as solid ground as we’ve been led to believe.

Introduction

  1. Disclaimer
  2. Wrong Information
  3. Definitions
  4. History of Deep Time
  5. Did Darwin embrace Christianity?
  6. Evolutionary Mechanism
  7. Quotes

Not only is the acceptance of evolutionary thought unnecessary for Christians, but it is dangerous. The acceptance of the evolutionary origins story within the Christian church will erase the conviction of the historicity/truth of God’s Word. If the foundations of scripture (established in Genesis) can be marginalized as mythical or poetic, why should we not also be able to reinterpret doctrinal and historical scriptures to match the latest cultural/societal/scientific paradigms? For example, as homosexuality becomes more and more acceptable in today’s culture, it is feasible (seeing how pliable Genesis has been redefined) to expect Christian churches to ordain homosexual ministers. This is already happening in Episcopal, Presbyterian (PCUSA), and Anglican churches. So the battle for the integrity of God’s Word is not just about Genesis, but about the historicity/veracity of the Bible.

The battle of creation/evolution has been waged on many fronts and in many forums. Can my entry into the fray make a difference? My tiny blog may not turn the tide of the many battles, but for those who get a chance to read the following Manifesto, I hope that:

  1. Non-Christians come to faith in Jesus because they see that they can trust God’s Word.
  2. Christians are encouraged to trust God’s Word as cohesive and foundational.
  3. Christians are persuaded not to compromise the clear teachings of scripture simply to accommodate the currently popular paradigm and avoid falling into apostasy.
  4. Everyone is encouraged to study God’s Word for themselves and grow closer to the Creator.

4115-1231

The intended audience of this manifesto is brothers and sisters in Christ who are unsure of the Biblical teachings regarding origins, Christians who purposefully incorporate the evolutionary story into their worldview, and non-Christians who have categorically dismissed the teachings of the Bible because of the belief that the Bible conflicts with the modern academic paradigm. I have sincerely tried to remove wording that would be inflammatory, and my hope is that this presentation will instead be persuasive in order to help bring unity to Christians.

Can’t Teach an Old Earth Creationist New Tricks

After scanning a few apologetics blogs today, I came away with the impression that many of them are content with the idea that Old Earth Creationism is a legitimate position to take with regards to the authority of God’s Word. This worries me because taking God’s Word as mythological when it is clearly teaching history will deteriorate the foundation of scripture. Once the foundation is mythologized, is it really even necessary anymore. The next thing you know, the Christian church will be ordaining homosexual ministers…ooops.

Unfortunately, none of the bloggers could adequately defend their belief. One of the bloggers simply referred dissidents to Hugh Ross’s website instead of engaging in the arguments. Another thought it was more appropriate to attack the character of young earth creationists. There were also a few that thought it a good idea to accuse young earth creationists of being ridiculous when rejecting the “proven” age of the earth at almost 14 billion years.

But I’ve never heard good hermeneutical arguments for converting to OEC. Below are some questions that need to be dealt with by OECers within the framework of scripture:

  • What was the writer’s intent in Genesis?
  • Since the chrono-genealogies of Genesis limit the amount time between creation and Abraham to under 3000 years (even with liberal interpretations of missing names), how can OEC account for this time limitation?
  • Where in scripture does it say that there was death of the nephesh before Adam sinned?
  • What did Jesus mean when in Mark 10:6 “At the beginning of creation, God made them male and female.” ?  Since mankind was created at the beginning of creation, according to the Creator, how does this fit with the OEC view that mankind has come into existence at the end of the old earth timeline of billions of years?
  • The YEC view fits nicely with what scripture teaches without contradictions or epicycles. Using only scripture, how could one build a case for OEC at the exclusion of YEC?

This would be a good start for an enterprising OEC apologist to answer.
